St Paul's School Admissions Process

The main point of entry into St Paul's School is at 13+ Year 9, although some do join the Junior school at 11+ Year 7. Half of pupils come from the Junior School and half from a wide range of schools. Boys joining from other schools are encouraged to register during Year 5. The admissions process is in three stages.
During stage one candidates are required to take the ISEB Common Pre-Test in October or November of Year 6. A report covering the candidates character, academic strengths and interests will be requested from the candidate's Head Teacher. The report and ISEB results will be reviewed before deciding which boys will prgress to stage two.
Candidates selected to progress to stage two will be invited to sit written assessments in maths (60 minutes) and English (45 minutes) at St Paul's School in early January of Year 6.
Candidates who perform well in the written assessments will be invited to progress to stage three, an interview with two senior members of teaching staff who will each spend 25 minutes talking to them about their academic studies.
Admissions decisions will be made within three weeks of the interview.

We have a free ISEB Common Pre-Test familiarisation test for you to gain a brief insight into the exam, and we have full length ISEB Common Pre-Test Mock Tests available to purchase which replicate the format and content of the Entrance Assessment. The ISEB Pre-Test is an online adaptive test, meaning after the first question, each subsequent question is determined by previous responses. Candidates cannot go back to a previous question to change their answer.

ISEB Common Pre-Test Assessment Format

The ISEB Common Pre-Test contains the following four subject tests:

  • English - 40 minutes
  • Mathematics - 40 minutes
  • Verbal Reasoning - 25 minutes
  • Non-verbal Reasoning - 30 minutes

BOFA ISEB Common Pre-Test Mock Tests

Our BOFA® ISEB Common Pre-Test Mock Tests have been designed and created specifically to replicate the ISEB Common Pre-Test exam situation in order to help pupils familiarise themselves with the format and structure of the ISEB Common Pre-Test exam. Our Mock Tests follow the same three stage learning process as the BOFA® 11+ site (test, practice, retest) but the emphasis is on the exam preparation rather than the learning element. Our Mock Tests are sold in packs of 3 as we believe 3 is the minimum number of tests a pupil will need to complete to become comfortable with the format and style of the exam. You can purchase Mock Tests for the ISEB Common Pre-Test from our Mock Test Shop.

As well as offering these specific Mock Tests we also offer an online adaptive learning platform on a subscription basis for long term support and exam preparation. Our 11+ subscription site is our unique online learning platform which covers material from 8+ through to 12+, designed to assist pupils in their learning and understanding of syllabus content in preparation for the 11+ exam. All our tests follow our three stage learning process of initial test, followed by tailored teaching and learning before a retest. Although referred to as the 11+ subscription site, a subscription gives you access to all the subscription site material and is therefore suitable for pupils aged 7 to 11, in school years 3 to 6. You can purchase a recurring monthly subscription for £9.50 a month, which can be cancelled at any time, or you can take out a fixed term 3, 6, 9, or 12 month subscription with a one-off payment, prices of which can be found in our 11+ shop.
